180 seconds in Italy is somewhat more of a personal project. I really wanted to challenge myself with documenting my semester abroad, especially with something I could keep myself accountable to do every day. Taking pictures is something I have been doing for a very long time, and something that now comes very naturally, working with moving images, on the other hand, does not. How to compose them and then compile them so they look good running together was a whole new skill to learn for me. But man was it worth it. Working with this medium allowed me to document a very special time in my life in a way that preserved not only sight, but sound as well, allowing a whole new set of triggers for memories.

Every day, for ninety days, I captured two seconds of video. The whole thing is in chronological order, January 30, 2019, from when we left Bozeman, Montana, to May 1, 2019, when we left Rome, Italy. What you’ll see is a vibrant, colorful culture I witnessed for the first time, new friendships being built, astounding architecture that has lasted centuries, and so much more.
